Welcome Theatre Pro Rata

It’s official. The Twin Cities will be represented and their representatives have chosen Ulysses S. Grant to add to our video project.

Why U.S. Grant you ask? I didn’t ask, but they’re clever people and they may well know that Grant, Minnesota, a Twin Cities suburb, was named after the late, great, and painfully corrupt President Grant.

Also, you could throw a stone from Minneapolis and hit Galena, IL, which is Grant’s home town. (OK, it’s like five hours away so if you were superman you could throw a stone and hit Galena–but don’t. Galena’s lovely.)

Theatre Pro Rata is one of my favorite kinds of companies–fairly small and low key, but they do amazing work.

Formed in 2000 under the artistic direction of Carin Bratlie, the company gained local notoriety with Trainspotting as part of the 2002 Minnesota Fringe Festival. Shortly thereafter, Theatre Pro Rata began to produce regular seasons and have garnered reviews with adjectives like…

“spellbinding,”
“heart-rending,”
“fascinating,”
“incredible,”
“electrifying,”
“compelling,”
and my personal favorite: “enthusiastically insane.”

Perfect.

If you’re in the Twin Cities area next summer, check out their production of 44 Plays for 44 Presidents between Jun 1, 2012 and Jun 16, 2012.
