Hastings College joins the Festival!

We love colleges, especially colleges from Nebraska, birth state of the late, great and kinda clumsy Gerald Ford.

And of course it’s for that reason Hastings has reserved Gerald Ford for the video project.

Their theatre department is an “essential part of the Hastings College campus and community.” Since the department is part of their Liberal Arts Program, it gives students a bigger picture view of the universe beyond the stage, which is our kind of theatre.

And hey, isn’t history a liberal art too?

The Hastings College Theatre program sounds awesome. It gives students freedom to direct their work and opportunities to rock internships all over. We approve.

An interesting side note about Gerald Ford….while he was still alive, he almost attended a production of 43 Plays for 43 Presidents in Beaver Creek, Colorado in 2004. Unfortunately, he wasn’t feeling well that night so he cancelled. I’ve always wondered whether he was really under the weather, or just didn’t want to see his presidency summed up in 2 minutes and stacked up against the rest. Who would? (Aside from Jimmy Carter who saw it in 2002 on his home turf in Atlanta.)

I’d like to think Ford will be at Hastings in spirit. After all, Hastings alumnus and Congressman Bill Barrett was the chair of the Nebraska arm of Ford’s 1976 campaign.

Ford won Nebraska in 76. He owes Hastings.
